A biomechanical analysis of dumbbell curl and investigation of the effects of increasing loads on biceps brachii using a finite element model

Dumbbell curl is one of the most important strengthening exercises for upper extremity. This exercise trains especially biceps brachii. Exercise load increased to achieve more muscle strength Researchers are usually focused on electromyography (EMG) in order examine effects increasing contraction. However, only force can be predicted with EMG measurement. Structural analysis muscles cannot performed. In this study, brachii were investigated by mechanical analysis. The inverse dynamic model was simulated according motion dumbbell performed 6 kg and 10.7 kg. calculated from elbow joint reaction moment. A simplified finite element created stress-strain response examined. Although increases 78.3%, rate increase peak moment 57.7% 38.3%. Similarly, maximum strain stress 44.4% 37.3%, respectively. According these results, it understood that does not at same rate.
